WORRIED
Jamal Murray’s hamstring
He’s out for a month, maybe less, but these things tend to stick around, hamstrings’ll hang a player up.
The Nuggets already have an 8-2 record banked, three of those wins in Jamal’s absence (including Wednesday’s over Chicago, where Murray injured himself and worked only 9:30). Sunday’s effort was a loss in Houston, to a Rocket team which suddenly plays defense. Denver starts Reggie Jackson and plays Collin Gillespie more, Collin (a 24-year old rookie on a two-way deal) is not great at the moment but he’s turned it over twice in 65 minutes since Murray fell.
But we’re not here to win games out of Gillespite, the Nuggets run the ball through Nikola Jokic (29.8 points/13.7 rebounds/8.3 assists) more often as starter Reg. Jackson nears starter-quality (ten points and four assists in 23 minutes, 44/36/5-9 free throws in 235 total minutes). Aaron Gordon can ship an extra pass.
But don’t rush it. The Nuggets sneered at the NBA in the summertime, refusing to add a point guard beyond the incumbent Jackson, who worked 18 total minutes during Denver’s 20-game title run. The Nugs let Bones Hyland go last February and borderline belittled the fella in the press recently, the defending champs can’t rush an All-Star point guard back just to win the Bones Hyland divorce. That’s beneath all of us, let alone the mile high champions.
