NBA promotions unfortunately are now funneled through the filter of what a 62-year old thinks is cool, neat.

Adam Silver’s aching ambition is plain, he wants to create a sport that its viewers don’t have to think about. This league cannot be too far from placing massive, dayglo-green captions over the top of its ballgames, the kind of graphics we see on apps, we like apps, don’t we?

There are no misses here, this is the S&P 500 plus a little Mild Sauce and it makes money. The NBA isn’t incorrect to link with its partners, these just touch the screen and ask it a question-partners. No more blatant than the tire ads or motor oil ads or car body repair ads sponsoring national NBA broadcasts in the 1970s. Cars were really bad back then.

These endorsements are always inoffensive, unthreatening, but the league’s current commitment to capital gags any gag.

Not only did the NBA hire a comedian, the NBA hired the richest comedian. Not only did the NBA hire a content creator, Adam Silver hired the richest content creator.
