This date in playoff history: The Phoenix Suns save Chicago

Game 5 didn’t feel like a season-ender, 1992-93 was too fitful and weird and large. The Bulls had to let everyone else talk for a while, Chicago had to let its season go before it could return. The Phoenix Suns were a Finals opponent as good as any champion, same as the bridesmaid Knicks squad Chicago (barely) left back in the Eastern Conference. Chicago was fighting for its third consecutive title and hating every second of it, recognizing with each exasperated huddle why the NBA hadn’t done this in 27 years.
